The big no-no.

I grew up with the notion instilled in my little brain that black and brown was a big no no. Then I got into fashion blogging and I saw this horror all over the place. It grew on me and I though "eh, why not?" This week I finally got around to mixing them...

And I love how this outfit turned out!

This is the detail of the top: my gramma shirt (JC Penney), my stretchy corduroy jacket (I've had it for so long I don't remember where I got it. Ross, maybe?) and my one of a kind necklace (Argentina).

Black skinny jeans (Target), brown boots (Burlington Coat Factory).

Ta-daaaa! I can't wait to wear it again! :)

I wear clothes 6.

Here go two random outfits I wore sometime in the past weeks: Dark aqua shirt with striped gray and pink cardigan, black skinny jeans and patent leather peep toe flats:

I must say I was feeling pretty daring that day combining that shirt with that cardigan! LOL. I was totally out of my comfort zone but I handled it pretty nicely. I actually like this outfit quite a bit!

And here's my inverted French braid and chignon. First time ever doing an inverted French braid. Not too shabby, huh?

Outfit number deux: striped shirt (by now you know I love this shirt... I don't wear it that often, though, but this shirt has the alchemical property of turning any mediocre outfit into a statement so I post here all the times I wear it).

Here it is. Badabing!
Gray cargo skinnies, faux suede Mary Janes, striped shirt, aqua boyfriend cardi and tulle and beads necklace made by moi.

 Ta-daaaa!

So, the other day our washer broke. Yeah. And I'm already getting tired of what I have been wearing so I realized I needed to remix a bit. And I came up with this outfit:

Silver scarf (Burlington Coat Factory), motorcycle jacket (Lane Bryant), black skinnies (Target), black tank top (Target), gray booties (Famous Footwear).

And kept my hair simple with a braided side-pony tail. Yeah, there is an inverted French braid in the back; I'm new to the inverted French braids but I'm slowly becoming a pro! Of course, you can see the side pony tail but not the braid itself. Wa waa...
I kind of like it because it's very themed. I'm not into motorbikes or rock n roll (not that much anyway) but I liked how being so uninspired I came up with something actually quite cool.

I wear clothes 4.

Two Saturdays ago we had a Supersaturday at church (which, by the way, was AWESOME! I got a lot of cute crafts made that otherwise I wouldn't have had time for) and I overdressed tremendously by wearing this. Hahaha!

Oh well.

Gray skinny cargos (Target), faux suede Mary Janes (Walmart), red shirt (Target), black tailored jacket (Ross), animal print scarf (Ross).

And put my hair in a braided side chignon like so:

Last Sunday I decided to wear my strappy stilettos to church. I was afraid they were too hoochie for going to church but much to my surprise they were very complimented. LOL. I've had these shoes for more than a year and I only wore them once, with pants, which covered them. This was the second time I ever wear them.

So I tried to tone them down with a monochromatic outfit and a simple hairdo not to look like a street walker.

This is my hair (yeah, the headshots are aimed at showing my hair): I tussled it a bit to give it some volume and then just kept it straight and sleek (?). They use that word a lot in fashion. Hahaha!

And here are the hoochie stilettos (Ross).
And the top (Ross) and necklace (moi).
Voilá!

I wear clothes 2

So, this is what I wore one of these Sundays to church. I'm not into wearing denim to church because... I don't know, it just feels to informal for my Sunday style. Anyway, I decided to do wear denim to church one Sunday and dress it up with nude pumps and one of my pearl necklaces.

And I curled my hair, put it in a ponytail with some volume on top and on the mane itself. It looked cool, I think. But you can't see the lose wavy top too well in this picture. LOL.

Let's catch up with old outfits...

This one's waaaaay old! From when it was still ok to wear wedged sandals. I guess I still could; it's not too cold yet but anyway...

Black tailored jacket (Ross), silky colorful blouse (made by me), black tank top (Target), skinny cargo pants (Target), silver wedges (Ross).

Focus.

Today we spent the whole day looking for a living room set. We didn't find one to fit our wants and our budget.

But I did come back home with leopard stilettos from Ross, leopard slippers and good smelling stuff from Bath and Body Works (the Carried Away fragrance is to die for).

We need to focus some more. I have a buttload of work to do and even though I'm happy I've bought my first pair ever of animal print shoes, I feel like I've wasted my day.

What a conundrum.

My nail adventures...

Alright, it's been so long that I have a gazillion pictures of what I've worn and whatnot. Here's some pictures of my nail adventures:

I tried the Kiss French Manicure set. For being a first it wasn't THAT bad. But it was bad. LOL. And my white French tips got yellow by the second day wearing them. Ugh. So I bought some acetone and got rid of them.

Two days later I went back to the kind-of-tacky-when-you-talk-about-them-but-nice-when-you-look-at-them glue on Kiss French nails. Sounds awful, I know. But then, they look pretty and when you first put them on nobody can tell they're not yours. See if you don't believe me! They do look cute and turned my chunky little fingers into something quite feminine! (reason why I do my nails).

But then, those glue-ons don't last very long so after a week they started to look icky and got rid of them. Instead, I did my second attempt at home-made acrylic nails. The Kiss set comes with lots of gel tips and plenty of acrylic to do them. So this time I wised up, used better lighting and got them done outside, because the first time around the stunk my whole house and probably killed one too many of my brain cells. So this is the result: short acrylic nails with a glittery ombre polish. Not too shabby.
So, yeah... if you're kind of artsy, you like doing your nails, and you can handle the smell, the Kiss acrylic nail set is well worth its $15 (and yeah... about half the price of a salon for more sets of nails than you would get at the salon as well).

The Nail Situation

So... maybe you noticed that I LOVE doing my nails. Unfortunately, for some inexplicable reason my nails have been very frail for 5 years, since I was pregnant with Miss C. I was never able to grow them healthy and very long again! As soon as they grow a little, they flake and/or break on the sides.

Big sad face. ):

I don't have particularly feminine hands so having my nails a little longer and polished helps them get all prettied up.

Occasionally I would buy Kiss glue-on nails. I know, sounds tacky. But they don't look as tacky as they sound!

Well, lo and behold, this last time I bought an Acrylic Set to do my own acrylic nails at home.

I would be lying if I said that I'm not nervous to try it.
